Puska the Cat, eighteen years old and a wise old lady indeed, leaves behind the story of her life, her experiences, and her accumulated wisdom for the benefit of her "man." (Not "owner," no indeed). Boris Zubry has translated her story from the original Meownese for our benefit. The story begins with Puska's infancy, her early years, friends, adventures in the neighborhood, other cats, and extensive travels. Puska and her man spent time in California, Texas, and New Jersey, not to mention Israel, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, Italy and Russia. Then there is the incredible moment when Puska got to drive her man's car. You will love it.

You will find that cats don't mince words, they have strong opinions about things and don't hesitate to express them. Be careful. Some of Puska's views are pretty controversial. You've been warned.

While telling her story, Puska is also telling us about outselves and our civilization, questioning our assumptions, and perhaps making us uncomfortable as well. Looking at our familiar world through the eyes of this unusual cat can be a shock, and sometimes it will make you laugh out loud.

Author Boris Zubry is a pretty wise cat himself, a raconteur with a biting wit and penetrating powers of observation. That said, I must point out the book has its flaws--a long-winded and repetitive style as well as odd forms of syntax that sometimes become quite annoying. A good editor would have been helpful to Puska's message. Still, I'm glad I read this book. If you enjoy cats, or just enjoy seeing things from a different world view, you will like it too. Puska Memoirs of the American Cat Boris Zubry 9781604419504 Books Reviews

Ok, let's say you are a talented cat (but what cat ISN'T talented) and you have access to a typewriter; no make that a word processor on a computer. And let's say you're taken around the world by your man, who is leading an exciting life as an engineer, but not as exciting a life as YOU (because you have a tail, something missing on humans and sorely needed, in your opinion.)

This is the life of Puska, who is 18 and in cat years, that's damn old. Puska treats us to a view of her world, inches off the ground, and her sage wisdom about people, dogs, cats and life in Israel, Russia, Europe and the Mew-Nited States, especially Mew-Jersey.

Of cute things in this book, there is a resume of Puska's skills and talents and pictures contributed by friends of Puska. One friend, Casper, contributed a picture of herself shortly before she herself died at 18. Casper would have liked this book as she also was a world traveler.

The last chapter will make you cry; cats may have nine lives, but nine is a finite number.
Contained a lot of peronal biographiclal material that I didn't care to read about intermingled with stories of Puska.
